Simply stated, I love working with students and I love to teach. As far as my teaching philosophy, it can best be summarized by the two words: “expect” and “respect.” I find that as long as my expectations and criteria as an instructor are clear, that not only can I set the bar high for my students, but they can reach it as well. Even if somewhat overly reductionistic, I think that Malcolm Forbes Jr.’s contention that the purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one is valuable. While I may be teaching certain classes and certain course materials, ultimately, it is not a “subject” that I am teaching, but my students.
